Denver Dirk & Co. – Neighborhood Guide
Living in Lakewood, Colorado
Your local guide to living, buying, and selling in one of Denver’s most beloved
neighborhoods.
Lakewood is one of the Denver metro’s most underrated cities, a vibrant, diverse, and rapidly evolving community that offers an exceptional quality of life at a price point that still makes sense. Situated just west of Denver with easy mountain access and a growing downtown corridor, Lakewood has quietly become one of the most compelling places to live on the Front Range.
The Lifestyle
Lakewood has a energy that sets it apart from other west metro suburbs. Belmar, the city’s reimagined town center, offers shopping, dining, entertainment, and community events that give Lakewood a lively urban feel without the density of the city. The extensive trail system along Bear Creek and Green Mountain provides world-class outdoor recreation right in the neighborhood, and William Frederick Hayden Park offers hiking with some of the best Front Range views in the metro. The city has a strong and growing arts and culture scene, and the sense of community here runs deep.
The Homes
Lakewood offers one of the most diverse housing inventories in the metro area. Mid-century ranch homes, brick colonials, and classic bungalows make up much of the established stock, while newer townhome developments and luxury condos are adding modern options throughout the city. The variety means strong options across nearly every price point, with entry-level homes starting in the mid $300s, mid-range single-family homes running from $500,000 to $900,000, and premium properties near the country club and in the most desirable pockets reaching well over $1 million.
My Experience in Lakewood, Colorado
Lakewood is personal for me in a very real way. I spent years living there, first near the Lakewood Country Club and later in my first new construction build, a project that gave me hands-on experience with the construction process that has informed how I advise clients on new builds to this day. I also operated my real estate office out of Lakewood for approximately ten years, spending the better part of a decade embedded in this community, learning it street by street and neighborhood by neighborhood. Lakewood has a rival feeling and a strong sense of community that I have always admired. It is a city that takes pride in itself, and that pride shows in how residents take care of their homes and their neighborhoods.
The Market
Lakewood’s market has strengthened considerably over the past decade as buyers have recognized the value it offers relative to closer-in Denver neighborhoods. Proximity to the mountains, a growing amenity base, and strong schools make it an increasingly attractive option for families, professionals, and investors alike. Appreciation has been consistent and the long-term trajectory looks strong as continued investment in the city’s infrastructure and amenities drives demand.
Schools and Location
Lakewood is served by Jefferson County Public Schools, one of Colorado’s top-rated districts. The city sits along the W Line light rail, connecting residents to Union Station in downtown Denver in under 30 minutes. C-470 and I-70 provide easy access to the mountains, and the entire south and west metro is within comfortable reach. Denver International Airport is approximately 45 minutes away.
